 ROAD ALERT

 

This ROAD ALERT was prepared by the Collier County Growth Management Department to inform the community about scheduled road construction and road maintenance projects along major roadways in Collier County where lane closures are planned or traffic flow may be affected.

COLLIER COUNTY CONSTRUCTION/MAINTENANCE PROJECTS:

South 1st Street between Stockade Road and Bethune Road (in Immokalee) – On South 1st Street between Stockade Road and Bethune Road in Immokalee expect traffic to be reduced from two lanes to ONE LANE ONLY on Monday, Oct. 9 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., weather permitting, as crews repair a water line break. Flagmen, advance warning signs and barricades will be used to assist travelers in this area.

107th Avenue North between Vanderbilt Drive and 8th Street North – On 107th Avenue North between Vanderbilt Drive and 8th Street North expect intermittent lane closures, as well as times that the road will be CLOSED to through traffic, allowing local residents only, for approximately three months, weather permitting, as crews continue work to install sewer mains, stormwater drainage and water mains as part of the Collier County Public Utility Renewal Project. During road closures, a detour route will be posted.  Flagmen will be used as needed, as well as advance warning signs and barricades to assist travelers in this area. 

110th Avenue North between Vanderbilt Drive and US 41 – On 110th Avenue North between Vanderbilt Drive and US 41 expect intermittent lane closures (limiting traffic to ONE LANE ONLY), as well as times that the road will be CLOSED to through traffic, allowing local residents only, for approximately three months, weather permitting, as crews continue work to install sewer mains, stormwater drainage and water mains as part of the Collier County Public Utility Renewal Project.  Flagmen will be used as needed, as well as advance warning signs and barricades to assist travelers in this area

Airport Road from Vanderbilt Beach Road to Nottingham Drive – On Airport Road from Vanderbilt Beach Road to Nottingham Drive expect crews to be working along the northbound roadside for approximately one month as construction progresses on the Airport Road North of Vanderbilt Beach Road Improvements Project. In addition, expect intermittent lane closures OVERNIGHT 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. for approximately one week, weather permitting, as crews mill and pave roadway. This improvement project is scheduled to be completed this fall. Motorists are advised to stay alert and drive with care.  Electronic message signs, lighted arrow boards, advance warning signs and barricades are being used to assist travelers in this area

Collier Boulevard between Immokalee Road and Crystal Lake Drive - On Collier Boulevard between Immokalee Road and Crystal Lake Drive expect southbound and northbound travel lanes to be reduced from three lanes in each direction to two lanes in each direction for approximately one week from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., weather permitting, as crews construct median improvements as part of the Pebblebrooke Median Improvements Project. Lighted arrow boards, advance warning signs and barricades will be used to assist travelers in this area.

Collier Boulevard Improvements Project – On Collier Boulevard at Green Boulevard, Pine Ridge Road/White Boulevard and at Golden Gate Boulevard expect intermittent lane closures in all directions from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for approximately three weeks, weather permitting, as crews perform traffic signal work for the Collier Boulevard Improvements Project.  The project is scheduled to be completed in approximately three weeks. Motorists are advised to stay alert and drive with care.  Flagmen will be utilized as needed, along with lighted arrow boards, advance warning signs and barricades, to assist travelers in this area. 

Copeland Avenue (CR 29) between Demere Lane and Oyster Bar Lane – On Copeland Avenue (CR 29) between Demere Lane and Oyster Bar Lane expect traffic to be reduced from two lanes to ONE LANE ONLY through January 2018, while traffic is diverted to Phase I of the new bridge and phase II is constructed. A temporary traffic signal has been installed and is operational 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Drivers are reminded to stay alert and expect delays. Final completion of the replacement bridge is planned in spring 2018. Hurricane Irma repairs will be ongoing for a few weeks. Motorist should obey posted signs and temporary signalization.   

Golden Gate Boulevard from east of Wilson Boulevard to west of 20th Street NE/SE – On Golden Gate Boulevard from east of Wilson Boulevard to west of 20th Street NE/SE traffic has shifted to one lane for eastbound traffic and two lanes for westbound traffic on opposite sides of the median. Construction activities are ongoing so drivers are reminded to continue to use caution when traveling in this construction zone and to drive with care.  Residents should use caution exiting and entering their driveways since traffic is now traveling on both sides of the new divided roadway. Estimated completion for the entire project is expected near the end of 2017.  The speed limit has been reduced to 35 mph during construction and will remain in place until the project is completed.  Electronic message signs, advance warning signs and barricades are being used to assist travelers in this area. 

Golden Gate Parkway at 55th Street SW – On Golden Gate Parkway at 55th Street SW expect the westbound median access to be closed along with southbound and northbound turn lanes 24 hours per day/7 days per week for approximately three months. Crews will be working from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., weather permitting, constructing intersection improvements. Flagmen will be used, as needed, along with electronic message signs, lighted arrow boards, advance warning signs and barricades, to assist travelers in this area.

Immokalee Road between Collier Boulevard and Bellaire Bay Drive – On Immokalee Road between Collier Boulevard and Bellaire Bay Drive expect intermittent westbound travel lanes to be reduced from three lanes to two lanes for 24 hours per day, seven days per week, weather permitting, as crews widen the roadway as part of the Collier Boulevard and Immokalee Road Intersection Improvements Project. Bellaire Bay Drive may be used as an alternate route during this needed improvement work. This project is expected to be completed this fall. Motorists are advised to stay alert and drive with care in the construction zoneExpect Delays. Advance warning signs, along with electronic message signs, lighted arrow boards and barricades are being used to assist travelers in this area.

Lake Trafford Road between Krystal Lane and North 18th Street (in Immokalee) – On Lake Trafford Road between Krystal Lane and North 18th Street in Immokalee expect intermittent southbound and northbound lane closures for approximately three months from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weather permitting, as crews install drainage pipes. Flagmen will be used, as needed, along with lighted arrow boards, advance warning signs and barricades to assist travelers in this area.

Vanderbilt Drive between 91st Avenue North and 101st Avenue North – On Vanderbilt Drive between 91st Avenue North and 101st Avenue North expect traffic to be reduced to ONE LANE ONLY through spring of 2018 from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., weather permitting, as crews continue installation of new water mains and stormwater drainage structures. 6th Street may be used as an alternate route for those travelers who do not have destinations in the construction zone. Advance warning signs and barricades will be used to assist drivers in this area.

Vanderbilt Drive between 104th Avenue N. and Bluebill Avenue/111th Avenue N. On Vanderbilt Drive between 104th Avenue N. and Bluebill Avenue/111th Avenue N. expect the roadway to be CLOSED TO ALL TRAFFIC for approximately seven weeks, weather permitting, as utility crews progress with the installation of new gravity sewer and force mains. A detour route is posted as well as electronic message boards, advance warning signs and barricades to assist travelers in this area.

Vanderbilt Drive between 111th Avenue North and Wiggins Pass Road – The Vanderbilt Drive Bridge Replacements Project has progressed to working on the second of two bridges. The Vanderbilt Drive road closure has moved to the vicinity of Bridge Number 030177, located 1.2 miles north of 111th Avenue, over Little Horse Pass Waterway between Anchorage Condos (12945 Vanderbilt Drive) and Marina Bay Club (13105 Vanderbilt Drive).  This closure includes ALL VEHICLES (INCLUDING BICYCLES) AND PEDESTRIAN TRAFFIC (both northbound and southbound). A detour route is posted directing both vehicular and pedestrian traffic to use 111th Avenue, US 41 and Wiggins Pass Road during the needed construction. Construction crews are in the process of removing the old bridge and will replace with a new bridge over the next 10 months.  During the current construction phase, reconstruction is continuing for approximately three months at the intersection of Vanderbilt Drive and the Marina Bay Club entrance. A temporary traffic signal has been placed at the entrance to Marina Bay Club where traffic entering and exiting will be restricted to a single travel lane during a majority of the reconstruction of this intersection and property entrance. Electronic message boards, advance warning signs and barricades are being used to assist travelers in this area.

White Blvd. over Cypress Canal Bridge Replacement Project – On White Blvd. between Weber Blvd. and 31st Street SW (over the Cypress canal) traffic has been switched to the temporary roadway and bridge.  Crews are working to remove the old bridge and then construct the new bridge. This project is expected to be completed in summer 2018. The speed limit has been reduced to 35 mph through the construction zone.  Flagmen will be used, as needed, along with advance warning signs, barrier wall and barricades, to assist travelers in this area. 

WORK BY OTHERS:

Golden Gate Boulevard between 21st Street NW and 5th Street NW – On Golden Gate Boulevard between 21st Street NW and 5th Street NW expect westbound traffic to be reduced from two lanes to one lane for approximately three months OVERNIGHT from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., weather permitting, as crews working for FPL replace power poles. Flagmen, lighted arrow boards, advance warning signs and barricades will be used to assist travelers in this area.

White Lake Boulevard in the vicinity of Shearwater Street – On White Lake Boulevard approximately 300 feet east of Shearwater Street expect intermittent lane closures for approximately one month from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., weather permitting, as crews working for FPL work in the right-of-way next to the travel lanes. Flagmen, lighted arrow boards, advance warning signs and barricades will be used to assist travelers in this area.

Rainy Season Advisory

**Do not drive on roads that are under water.  If you cannot see the pavement markings or the edge of pavement it is best not to risk driving into deep water. Turn around, don’t drown. ** 

**If an intersection is dark, meaning all traffic signals are damaged, missing, or without power, treat the intersection as a FOUR-WAY STOP situation.  However, if drivers approach a signalized intersection where the signal is in flash mode, drivers approaching from the flashing yellow side should proceed with caution and those approaching from the flashing red side need to treat the situation as a stop sign.**
