Q: Why do you dewater and what is it? Does it hurt features of my own property?
A: Dewatering is necessary to build certain things when the object being constructed must be worked on at an elevation that is below wherever the water table is at the time. In other words, these are items to construct underground and the water must be removed from the excavation they will be going into. Sometimes this can affect other water bodies such as water management ponds and lakes nearby (up to roughly a half mile) and cause the water level in them to lower. If there are irrigation pumps drawing water out of these ponds be sure to not let the pump go dry and draw only air. It will damage the pump / motor arrangement. It is best to have these systems properly permitted and designed and installed by firms that are qualified; this way they can be fitted with shut –off devices to prevent dry pumping.

Q: How does a cat/dog license help find a lost pet?
A: If you license your pet as regulations require, not only does it help the shelter track the number of owned animals, but it also allows the shelter to ensure that domestic pets are vaccinated against Rabies to prevent the spread of the disease. A dog/cat license also provides owner information immediately to the shelter should your pet arrive at the shelter as a lost pet wearing it's current license.
Additionally, by licensing your pet you can actually save money should your pet become lost and end up at DAS! If you claim your licensed, lost pet by the end of the second business day of impoundment at DAS - your pet can go home with you without having to pay your pet's impound fees! Pet owners are still responsible for paying for non-fixed pets' spay/neuter fee, but a licensed/lost pet never has to pay impound fees if claimed within two days following impoundment.
Call DAS for more information at (239) 252-PETS. Get a license for your pet at DAS located at 7610 Davis Blvd. next to the Boys and Girls Club or purchase a license for your cat or dog from your pet's veterinarian.
