A: No. Raising more than 3 adult dogs is considered kenneling by definition of the Collier County Land Development Code and allowed only in Rural Agricultural zoned areas, provided the property meets all the requirements of the Land Development Code.

Q: Can I leave my garbage can out in the right-of-way on non-pickup day?
A: No. Garbage containers may only be placed in the right-of-way between the hours of 6:00pm the day before, and until 6:00pm the day of your scheduled pickup.

Q: Can I park on the grass or on the swale?
A: No. For properties zoned for residential use in Mixed Use Urban Residential Land Use areas, the Collier County Land Development Code and Ordinance 04-58 specify that vehicles must be parked or stored in the front or side yard on a specifically designated spot that has a stabilized surface made of concrete, asphalt, crushed stone, or pavers. This does not include the Estates zoned areas. Parking in the street, swale or right-of-way is prohibited in any zone.

Q: Can I sell my car on the corner of my street?
A: No. You may only park your vehicle on your property off the right-of-way area and on a stabilized surface such as the driveway, concrete slab, crushed stone, asphalt or pavers. Also, you may not park your vehicle in public parking lots or vacant lots over the weekends.

A: You will need to contact Occupational Licensing and obtain a zoning approval for the type of business as a home occupation. The following conditions are prohibited for home occupations: signs on or off site, employees that live outside the home, customers, excess noise, meeting of employees for travel purposes, and parking of commercial vehicles in Residential districts. Q: Can I sell produce, flowers or other items along roads in Collier County?
A: No. County codes prohibit selling anything from the roadside (right-of-way) in Collier County. This includes solicitation of monies for organizations.

Q: Can I leave my furniture or appliances out in the right-of-way to be picked up?
A: You will need to call Waste Management to advise them that a pick-up is needed of a large item at (239) 252-2380. This would include the disposal of washing machines, dryers, oven, refrigerators, couches, chairs or other large household furnishings. You may then place the item(s) at the curbside for pickup on the day you are scheduled for pick-up of the item. NOTE: Automobile and boat parts will not be picked up, except for tires and batteries. Please be sure to take off doors from appliances to protect children from entrapment.

Q: Can I plant vegetation along the roadside of my property?
A: No. All construction activities, excavation, or obstruction on designated Collier county right-of-ways requires a permit, with exception to mailboxes, which must be mounted on a break-away type post.

Q: Can my guests from out of town stay in my motor home located on my property?
A: No. Recreational equipment may not be used for living, sleeping, or housekeeping purposes in Residential or Estates zoned districts, or any other property not specifically zoned for that purpose or use.

Q: Can I put my fence on the property line?
A: Yes. You may erect the fence on your property line with the finished side of the fence facing your neighbor’s property or the street. A Collier County Building Permit must first be obtained.

Q: Can I have a canopy or shade tent on my property and do I have to get a permit for this?
A: Yes. Canopy tents/shades are permitted in Residential and Estates zoned areas. You must apply for and receive approval for a permit prior to adding to your property. In addition, the structure must be erected in accordance with setbacks and restrictions of the Collier County Building Permit. These structures may only be used for the storage or parking of recreational vehicles, vehicles authorized in residential areas, and as a sunshade for outdoor activities.

Q: Do I need a building permit to install or build a shed on my property?
A: Yes. Citizens must apply for applicable permits for any building or structure that is erected, altered, utilized or allowed to exist on his/her property. There are also requirements associated with each of the zoning districts that pertain to setbacks and permitted uses.
