Tom Henning has been a resident of Collier County since 1973 and a graduate of Lely High School. Commissioner Henning joined the Golden Gate Civic Association in 1992 and is currently a member of the board of directors. He has served as both vice president and president of the Golden Gate Civic Association. He also received the prestigious Golden Gate Chamber’s President’s Service Award in 1982 and 1983.

Commissioner Henning served as an elected Fire Commissioner for the Golden Gate Fire and Rescue District for 4 years. He served on the Solid Waste Site Selection Committee and the Golden Gate Community Center Advisory Committee. He served as the Board of County Commissioners’ Liaison for the Community Character/Smart Growth Advisory Committee from 2001-2005.

Commissioner Henning was voted, by his fellow members of the Board of County Commissioners, as Vice-Chairman in 2002 and served as Chairman of the Board for 2003. As County Commissioner, Commissioner Henning has served on the Elections Canvassing Board, the Metropolitan Planning Organization, the Tourist Development Council, and the Collier County Productivity Committee. He is currently serving as a member of the Southwest Florida Regional Planning Council and a former chairman of the President’s Council. Commissioner Henning sold his business of 19 years, Golden Gate Auto Repair, to devote himself full-time to his Commissioner’s duties.
