Dozens of veterinary clinics are teaming up with Collier County Domestic Animal Services to provide reduced cost spay/neuter surgeries to owned animals on Wednesday, Nov. 7.

Animalife Veterinary Clinic announced it will seek to establish the world record for the number of cat neuters by one clinic in a day. Animalife Veterinary Clinic is also the primary sponsor for the DAS Howl-A-Day Jubilee Pet Festival scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 17 at Veterans Community Park from 2 to 7 p.m.

“We have contacted the Guinness Book of World Records and are dedicated to stay all day and night to set this world record not only to promote Spay Neuter Day but also to help reduce the growing homeless pet population,” said Animalife Veterinary Clinic Owner Dr. Randy Eisel.

Domestic Animal Services helps organize Spay/Neuter Day every year and is looking forward to the new twist on promoting responsible pet ownership. Dr. Eisel’s goal is to perform at least 50 feline neuters and he is inviting feline rescue groups to participate. Animalife is also accepting sponsors for each cat neutered to raise funds for Childrens Cancer Research.

“I think this is a wonderful benefit for pet owners, because Spay Neuter Day really is an outreach to people who want to be responsible and have their pets fixed but may be on a limited budget,” DAS Director Margo Castorena said.

Spay Neuter Day is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 7.  Pets must be pre-registered by Monday, Nov. 5.

Castorena said her goal and the goal of participating veterinarians is to fix owned pets, reduce the likelihood of the homeless pet population growing and to create momentum behind this movement.

To pre-register your cat or dog for spay or neuter surgery, call Domestic Animal Services at 252-7387. The fees for spaying and neutering an animal through this special program are $50 for cat neuters, $65 for cat spays, $75 for dog neuters and $85 for dog spays. This is an estimated $150 or more in savings for pet owners.
