About the Commissioner

 Andy Solis, Esq.

District 2

  Commissioner Andy Solis

Andy Solis was born in Lakeland, Florida, the first American-born child in a family that fled Cuba after losing everything to a Communist dictatorship. He grew up in Gainesville, where his father was a professor at the University of Florida. Attending the University of Alabama on an athletic scholarship, Andy was a 2-time All-American tennis player, and graduated with a degree in Industrial Management before attending the Florida State University College of Law. Following graduation, he served as law clerk to Justice Ben F. Overton of the Florida Supreme Court.

“Justice Overton impressed upon me the importance, both professionally and as a person, of being able to ‘disagree without being disagreeable.’ I have kept those words in mind throughout my life and career.”

Andy moved to Naples in 1993, and began a career in private practice. Since 1994, he has lived, worked, and raised his two wonderful children in District 2. In addition to serving as a director with the law firm of Cohen & Grigsby and a board member of the Council of Hispanic Business Professionals, Andy has been involved with many different charitable and non-profit organizations including the United Way, Avow Hospice and the Hispanic Council Foundation of Collier County, where he served as president. Andy is particularly proud of the Foundation’s work to create the first scholarship program specifically for young Hispanic women to study STEM-related (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) fields.

For the last several years, Andy has been increasingly involved in growth management and economic development in Collier County. He served on the Collier County Planning Commission, the Opportunity Naples Implementation Committee and the Steering Committee of the Partnership for Collier’s Economic Future. Through this service, Andy gained important experience in growth management and economic development, two of the most important issues facing Collier County today.

“I am committed to ensuring the responsible management of the County’s growth, stewardship of its natural resources, and to working to diversify its economy so that Collier County will remain the best place to live, work and play.”

Commissioner Solis currently serves as the Vice Chair of the Board of County Commissioners, as the Chair of the Community and Economic Development Board, as the liaison from the Board to the Clerk of the Courts, and as the alternate to the Public Safety Coordinating Council.
