The requirement to complete building permit application reviews within pre-established time frames before returning 50% of the building permit application review fee, as described in Building Block “A-126 Building Review Performance Standard”, is suspended until further notice. This action is effective as of September 6, 2017, at 12:00 noon, concurrent with the Collier County Board of County Commissioners adopting a resolution declaring a State of Emergency in Collier County due to Hurricane Irma.

The Growth Management Division’s Department of Operations and Regulatory Management received its first National Association of Counties (NACo) Achievement Award for Building Permit Review Standards: Managing Expectations. The NACo Achievement Awards are for counties with innovative programs that modernize county government and increase services to county residents.
The Building Permit Review Standards program was an aggressive initiative to truly cement Naples as a destination location for developers looking to help stabilize the floundering economy, and it worked.
The county established time frames for reviews to be completed and offered a money-back guarantee which is a rare government accountability measure. This drives home the county’s commitment to the success of its clients.
Commissioner Donna Fiala, District 1, was thrilled with the award.
“Receiving the NACo Achievement Award for Building Permit Review Standards: Managing Expectations is especially rewarding to Collier County because in the mid-2000’s we had a long way to go; the building industry was unhappy and so were the developers and business owners,” said Commissioner Fiala. “With dedication, determination and a willingness to go all the way, forming partnerships with the building industry to work together to answer their needs and create an atmosphere that would be advantageous to all, we turned the corner and headed in the right direction. Thanks to all for shining the light on our success!”
President and CEO of The Greater Naples Chamber of Commerce John Cox was also delighted with the award.
