Permit applications are normally acted upon within 20 working days. The Environmental Services Department is not staffed to issue over-the-counter permits. Please allow sufficient time to obtain your permit prior to beginning work.

Application Submittal Requirements

Agricultural Clearing Notification

  • Addressing checklist;
  • Property Appraiser's Agricultural classification;
  • Best Management Practices, interim measures or regulations governing the agricultural operation (developed by Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Florida Department of Agricultural and Consumer Services and/or South Florida Water Management District and/or U.S. Department of Agriculture, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers or U.S. Environmental Protection Agency);
  • Proof of ownership of the property (warranty deed or tax statement)
  • An aerial photograph or site plan that includes vegetation inventory, acreage of existing native vegetation on site and proposed clearing plan;
  • Clearing fee $250.00

  • Aerial/site plan
  • South Florida Water Management Consumptive Use Permit or exemption
  • South Florida Water Management Surface Water Permit or exemption
  • Permit from the US Army Corps of Engineers if wetlands onsite
  • Silviculture management plan, if applicable
  • Clearing fee $250 up to 1 acre, $50 for each additional acre, or fraction thereof, with a maximum fee of $3,000
Vegetation Removal Permit
  • For removing native vegetation from non-agricultural land;
  • To remove non-planted landscaping due to diseased trees, damage to structure, or safety hazard
  • To clear in addition to one acre for single family lots after obtaining a building permit;
  • To clear native vegetation in order to construct a perimeter fence;
  • To remove landscaping due to diseased trees, damage to structure, or safety hazard;
  • To clear for an approved accessory structure on single-family zoned lots ;
  • To clear native vegetation in order to gain access to undeveloped property for subsurface soil boring testing;
  • To clear exotic vegetation by mechanical means. Download Application

 Coastal Construction Setback Line

  • To construct a dune walkover a maximum width of 6 feet

Sea Turtle Permit
  • During sea turtle nesting season (May 1 through October 31), construction within 100 feet of the nesting zone (vegetated dune area down to the high water line)
  • When use of a vehicle for beach raking is necessary during nesting season

Vehicle on the Beach Permit
  • To operate a hand, animal or engine-driven wheel or vehicle implement on, over or across any part of the sand dunes or the beach
  • Beach Raking
  • For routine functions associated with permitted uses of a commercial hotel property
  • For use in conjunction with permanent concession facilities
  • For use in conjunction with special or annual beach events

Annual Beach Events Permit

  • Application fee $100 per day (can be less if events are requested in blocks)
Special Treatment Permit

  • Map of site location
  • Site development plan
  • Other requirements may apply depending on location and size of property
  • Application fee $400 minimum 5 acres or less, plus $50 for each additional acre, or fraction thereof, with a maximum fee of $1,500

Informal Wetland Determination
  • Proof of ownership (last tax statement or warranty deed)
  • Letter from owner if Agent is applying
  • Addressing checklist
  • Location map and Aerial of site location
  • Current Boundary Survey 
  • Other requirements may apply depending on location and size of property
  • All four corners must be staked and labeled with Unit and Tract number
  • Application fee $300
