Leftover hazardous waste can be brought to any Collier County Recycling Drop-Off Centers.

  • Do Not mix chemicals together!
  • Keep products in a closed, labeled container. Original containers are best.
  • Note chemical compatibility when packing.
  • Place any leaking containers in labeled, larger containers of like material.
  • Keep boxes away from passengers; place in trunk or back seat of car.

Transport immediately; do not store hazardous waste in vehicles for extended periods of time.

NATURAL ALTERNATIVES

Natural products such as baking soda, lemons and vinegar are safe alternatives for the environment and work well for everyday clean-ups. Here are a few helpful household tips and suggestions that you can try at home:

  • DRAIN CLEANER: Dissolve ½ cup of baking soda and one cup of vinegar in boiling water. Pour the mixture into the drain, let fizz for a few minutes and rinse.
  • TOILET BOWL CLEANER: Sprinkle the bowl with baking soda. Pour a small amount of vinegar on the toilet brush and scrub.
  • ALL-PURPOSE CLEANER: Mix one teaspoon of baking soda in one quart of water for counters, tabletops, and other surfaces. Also works great in the bathroom.
  • FURNITURE POLISH: Mix two parts vegetable oil with one part lemon juice. Wipe with a soft, clean cloth.
  • LAUNDRY DETERGENT: Add one cup of baking soda to washer with a few drops of vinegar to keep colors bright.
