Repairs after Hurricane Irma:
Collier County Traffic Operations is working diligently on replacing and repairing traffic signs and street signs that were impacted by Hurricane Irma. The storm has caused damage to the majority of the 25,000 traffic and street signs in Collier County of which 3,300 are stop signs. Our number one priority is to replace all missing stop signs due to the significant impact on traffic safety. As we keep an inventory of all signs in the County, we can assure you that no location will be missed. We have all available staff working 10 hour shifts and additional contractor crews are assisting as well. We are doing our utmost to restore the safety on Collier County roadways and appreciate your understanding. Please continue to move through traffic with caution and patience as we work on this enormous task.
The purpose of the Collier County Traffic Operations Section (CCTO) is to promote the safety and efficiency of the county's roadway network through sound engineering principles and effective maintenance. The CCTO currently has a complement of 38 employees: four in In-House Design, seven in Roadway Signing and Marking, four in Roadway Lighting, three in Traffic Facility Locates, seven in the Traffic Management Center, ten in Traffic Signals, and three in the Administrative Section. The CCTO has authority throughout the unincorporated area of the county; municipalities provide their own maintenance and services.
Currently, the CCTO is responsible for the maintenance of approximately 211 signalized intersections, 162 flashers, 4,800 roadway lights and 24,000 traffic signs along the county's roadway network.
